A WALK THROUGH THE THIRTEEN ACRE WOODS

Yesterday afternoon was the first time I have explored the back part of our acreage since getting my camera...the weather has just been too hot. I only went out to take some pictures of the toadstools, but was lured from one spot to another. The following collages are just some of the pictures I took.

Picture one is fungus on a vine and two is a dead tree in
our 'pond.' Three and four are the toadstools.

Picture one here, is a view of the house from the
'woods' and two is a very large sewer pipe. Three and
four are rock edges where someone must have started a
garden.

Pictures one and two here are yesterday's sunrise, and
three and four are sun spotlights through the leaves.

All four photos here are of a dying pecan tree. I don't
know what to do about it, and the owner is selling the
place commercially. It isn't likely that very many of
these trees will survive any kind of commercial
development. Progress...So sad.

I know some trees regenerate if a fire is built around the base of them. Perhaps, if there are trees that are looking a bit 'sick' on your property, you could try this...it can't do any harm (as long as you monitor the fire, of course). Just a thought...I hope it's helpful. :)

That's true, Lee. It is how forests are culled of diseased trees, but we have been under a burn band for most of this year now because of the drought. I suspect that is also the cause of our tree loss, and we have been much more fortunate than others. We still have a lot of green here in Oklahoma, but Texas was pretty much turning brown until their recent rains.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
So far we have been very lucky about grass fires. One got within a couple of miles before it was under control, but that’s as close as they have gotten.

Yes...I understand the bushfire dilemma...we here in Australia suffer severely from them, too, plus the droughts. It's okay up here on Mount Tamborine where I live but elsewhere in south-east Queensland they are suffering a dire water shortage. I heard about the bad fires earlier this year up around the northern parts of Texas, around Pampa. We're all hoping for a good 'wet season' here this summer. We need a couple of cyclones (without the devastation that can go with them)to push the rain down across and over the state.

Hi Norvona, glad that I've 'stumbled' here via your post at Moosey's forum. Hmm...I'm delighted to have spent a couple of worthwhile hours enjoying your blog with lovely photos, writings and poems and got to know you better. However I'm saddened that you're facing some patchy times with your health and broken links with your beloved grandchildren. Hope and pray that you'd be reunited with them someday soon.

I've bookmarked your other website for further enjoyment later when I'm less pressured by many other unfinished tasks, due to my pc breakdown last month. Nonetheless, I did have a quick glance there and am really impressed! ;)
Congrats on your achievement!

Hi Norvona, thank you for your comments once again, and hey, look at you, I've just had a look at some of your photos. It's great to see you are trying different things, and from your own backyard too. Isn't it amazing the stuff you can find there? I'm going to do a segment on that soon. Happy birthday for last month and thanks again. Keep up the great work.
Regards Ken

Isn't it amazing the people you find while blogging...Ken, the poster before me lives in my old home town. I left Gympie way back in the late sixties but I did return in 1998 and lived there again before moving up here to Mount Tamborine. Small world after all!

Hi, Jacqueline. I too am glad that you found my blog and I am sorry for being so long in commenting. I have 'ignored' my blog and my website for several weeks now while I tried to finish a short story to enter in a contest . . . deadline Sept. 30. While editing and tweaking it, I somehow (I think it had to do with installing an updated version of Internet Explorer) deleted everything I had edited. However, I still have the story, just lost the changes. Aggggggg!

Thank you for your kind words about my grandchildren. I miss them so much sometimes. Still, I have found that your heart can be broken over and over and you continue to live on. It has always been my belief that God does not give us more than we can bear. But don't you just love the saying..."Sometimes I wish He didn't have so much confidence in me!” LOL

Thanks again for stopping by and give those beautiful twin granddaughters a big hug for me. God bless . . .

Hey, Lee, what a coincident! Yes it is amazing the people you find while blogging . . . I'm still hoping to 'find' my grandchildren this way! Are you and Ken catching up on old times? Isn’t he an amazing photographer?
